VG Energy Signs Rig Purchase Contract with BOMCO

Scottish Africa Business Association member VG Energy is proud to announce the successful signing ceremony of its Rig Purchase Contract with Baoji Oilfield Machinery Co. Ltd. (BOMCO). This marks a major milestone in VG Energy’s mission to reshape Nigeria’s oil and gas drilling, operations and production landscape, while supporting the country’s drive for greater efficiency and capacity in the upstream sector.

BOMCO, a global leader in the manufacturing of oil drilling and production equipment, is wholly owned by China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC). Established in 1937 as the Baoji Oilfield Machinery Plant, the company entered the petroleum industry in 1953 and has since grown into a world-class enterprise supplying advanced land and offshore drilling rigs, high-performance F-series mud pumps, multi-purpose wire-line systems and state-of-the-art power control technologies used across the international drilling industry.

This partnership is a significant strategic step in VG Energy’s objective to back Nigeria’s marginal field operators by unlocking and de-risking upstream investment opportunities. The acquisition of this high-spec 2000HP rig strengthens VG Energy’s commitment to enabling greater output, improving operational reliability and widening access to world-class equipment for operators working to bring new reserves online.

Frazer Lang, CEO of the Scottish Africa Business Association, said: “It’s fantastic to see VG Energy achieve such an important milestone. Their work is a strong example of how Scottish capability can support meaningful progress across African markets. We’re delighted to see one of our members advancing at this level and building partnerships that have real impact on industry growth and long-term development.”
